BOUNDLESS INTIMACY: The Eye And Treasury Of Core-Self
by Andrew Shugyo Daijo Bonnici, Ph.D.
Excerpt from Chapter 1 – “Abiding In Core-Self – Ocean Of Ki Energy”:
When we viscerally abide in the vibrant alertness of our core-Self in shikantaza and zazen-only, we become somatically intimate with the vital bio-energy that upholds and sustains the total dynamic functioning of this Only Moment Body. The ancient Chinese sages (5000 B.C.) called this vital bio-energy “Chi” or “Qi” (pronounced as “chee” and “key.”) In our Japanese Soto Way of Zen, we call this vital bio-energy “Ki” (also pronounced “key”). Ki is a universal form of bio-energy that upholds the life of all plants, animals, creatures, and beings on our planet. In shikantaza and zazen-only, we experience Ki as the life force that penetrates the surface and depth of this Only Moment Body.
